In the 2012 assembly elections, BJP contested all 68 seats in the state and managed to win 26 seats. The 2017 elections saw a swing in 8 constituencies from BJP to other parties. The party lost 6 seats to INC and the other 2 went to IND. However, the losing margin for BJP in seats remained below 10%.
BJP will be well aware of the anti-incumbency voting pattern in the state and will need to put all the efforts and the resources to the task to swing these close losses in its favor to strengthen its position in the hill state.
