After not winning a single seat in 2017 elections, AAP is back in 2022 assembly elections. This time they have announced candidates for each of the 40 assembly seats; 39 GEN and 1 SC.

Here is what we know so far:

1) AAP Backed

The AAP announced to support Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, contesting the forthcoming assembly elections as an independent from Bicholim constituency.

2) Gender Breakdown

Out of 40 seats, there are 37 male candidates and 3 female candidates in the list.

3) Seat Shift

Sandesh Telekar has shifted from Canacona to Fatorda for the upcoming elections. Similarly, Surel Tilve has also shifted from Marcaim to Ponda.

4) 2nd Runner Up

5 candidates who lost by a margin of 29.7% to 42.3% have been given the tickets. And, out of the 5 candidates from the 2nd Runner-up category, 4 are male and 1 female candidates.

5) LOTA Candidates

There have been in total 9 candidates who switched their allegiances to AAP from their original parties. They include 6 candidates from BJP, 2 candidates from MAG, and 1 candidate from INC.

6) 1st Time Candidates

AAP keeping up with its penchant for leaning more towards fresh faces has again entrusted 23 new candidates for this election including Amit Palekar who is recently announced as the face of CM.

This time AAP is probably fighting to stay relevant in Goa politics. We’ll continuously observe the electoral Goan assembly elections and evaluate the progress.
