During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 209349 and the turnout stood at 80.03%, in real numbers- 167536 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout increase; out of the 226028 electors, 80.85% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers it amounts to 182752 voters.

2017’s assembly election winner, INC’s Chaudhari Anandbhai Mohanbhai gained a vote share of 52.79% and defeated BJP’s Pravinbhai Merjibhai Chaudhari whose vote share stood at 25.01%. The remaining candidate in the fray was independent candidate Halpati Kunvarjibhai Narsinhbhai with 16.17% vote share. 2.70% of votes were under NOTA.

In 2012, INC won the constituency and earned 83298 votes that increased to 96483 votes in 2017. On the other hand, BJP garnered 58904 votes in 2012 and 45707 votes in 2017. Overall, BJP dominated the district of Surat in 2017 by winning 15 seats. INC had to settle with just 1 seat.
