In 2009, BJD won 14 seats, INC won 6 seats and the remaining 1 seat went to CPI. In 2014, BJD swept the state by bagging 20 seats out of 21 and BJP managed to secure 1 seat. In 2019, however, the battle didn’t remain one-sided but saw BJP substantially improve on its previous performance to win 8 seats while BJD’s tally decreased to 12 seats. The remaining 1 seat went to INC.
BJP gained significant ground in BJD’s territory in 2019 and they will be aiming to further consolidate their seats to emerge as the dominating party in the next Lok Sabha elections.
