Amethi parliamentary constituency is one of the 80 parliamentary constituencies in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The constituency comprises Amethi and Rae Bareli districts. 

We are taking a peek at the gender-wise literacy rate of the Amethi and Rae Bareli districts, which form the Amethi parliamentary constituency as it is an essential indicator of the socioeconomic development of the region.

The 2011 census of India has pegged the overall literacy rate of the Amethi district* at 54%. Gender-wise, the male literacy rate in the district is 63% whereas, for females, the literacy rate stands at 45%.   

* Amethi district was created on 1st July 2010 by merging three tehsils of the erstwhile Sultanpur district namely Amethi, Gauriganj and Musafirkhana and two tehsils of the erstwhile Raebareli district, namely, Salon and Tiloi. Therefore, we have calculated the literacy rate of the district from these sub-districts.

The overall literacy rate of the district** is 61% as per the 2011 census of India. However, when it comes to gender, the literacy rate for males in Rae Bareli stands at 69% while the female literacy rate is 52%.    

**Two sub-districts of Rae Bareli namely Salon and Tiloi were annexed to the Amethi district when it came into existence in 2010. So, they were not included when calculating the gender-wise literacy rate of the district.
