Parliamentary Constituency Watch – Amroha

Amroha is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. It comprises 5 assembly constituencies and 2 districts. 

Between 1952 and 2019, different political parties won the election consecutively in the constituency of Amroha. 

In 1952, Hifzur Rahman Seoharwi was elected by the Indian National Congress and he held the seat till 1967. Ishaq Sambhali won the 1967 elections with the Communist Party of India and reclaimed the seat in 1971 as well. Chandrapal Singh of the Janata Party emerged victorious in 1977. Ram Pal Singh of the Indian National Congress was elected in 1984, followed by Har Govind Singh of the Janata Dal in 1989.

Chetan Chauhan of the Bharatiya Janata Party was elected in 1991 whereas the 1996 saw Pratap Singh Saini of Samajwadi Party winning the seat. Rashid Alvi of the Bahujan Samaj Party won in 1999. In 2004, Harish Nagpal was elected as an independent candidate, while Devendra Nagpal of the Rashtriya Lok Dal won the 2009 elections. Finally, in 2014 and 2019, Kanwar Singh Tanwar and Kunwar Danish Ali of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party respectively,

When it comes to success rate in the Amroha Lok Sabha seat, INC had the highest rate at 24%, followed closely by BJP at 18%. BSP and CPI both managed a 12% success rate in the same constituency.
