Agra is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Agra constituency comprises five assembly segments namely, Agra Cantt., Agra North, Etmadpur, Jalesar and Agra South. In terms of district Agra and Etah fall under this constituency.
The Agra seat came into existence in 1952 and since then has remained a Congress-dominated constituency till 1984 losing out the seat only once to JP in 1977 in between.

From 1989 to 1991, the candidate of the Janta Dal was elected to parliament. BJP managed to dominate the constituency from 1991 to 1999 before SP came victorious in two consecutive terms; 1999 and 2004. After that, the seat remained a BJP party stronghold from 2009 to till date.

In terms of success rate, INC enjoyed the highest success rate with 7.41% in the Agra parliamentary seat followed closely by BJP with 6.35% of success rate. However, in recent years it was the BJP that tasted the majority of success in the constituency.
