Uttar Pradesh Phase –7: A Report

Voting in the 7th and the final phase in Uttar Pradesh just concluded. So far, assembly elections at Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa have all wrapped up. And, as the ban on exit polls comes to an end, social media will be flooded with predictions that are entirely wrong or half-truths.

In the final phase of UP Assembly elections, a paltry turnout of 57.53% out of the overall 2.06 crore eligible voters showed up at the ballots to decide the fate of 613 candidates contesting for 54 seats spread over nine districts.

A closely watched candidate in this phase is former minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, contesting from the Zahoorabad seat in alliance with Samajwadi Party. Rajbhar had won the seat in 2017 as a candidate of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, as a BJP ally.
