Uttar Pradesh Phase- 2: A Report

The Valentine Day battle for 55 crucial assembly seats ended at 6 pm on Monday. Over 2.02 crore voters out of which 1.08 crore males, 0.94 crore female voters and 1269 third gender voters decided the fate of 586 candidates in nine districts.

 The average polling percentage of the second phase stood at 60.44 and brings us closer to a complete picture of Uttar Pradesh’s future. The 2017 results were stunning. BJP won 38 seats, SP won 15 and Congress was able to score 2 seats.  

Phase 2 is unique for its voter composition. Muslim voters form a sizeable chunk in the nine districts that went to poll in this phase. Rampur and Moradabad have around 50 percent Muslim voters followed by Bijnore with 43 percent, Saharanpur 42 percent, Amroha 41 percent, Sambhal 33 percent, and 23 percent in Budaun. Around the same time all over India, the Hijab issue is gaining momentum, dividing opinions and stances.
