The last three election results saw a constant decline in BJD’s winning margin in 25 constituencies. Out of these, in 15 seats its margin of victory was less than 10% in 2019.

The biggest fall in margin was seen in Bhanjanagar where BJD’s winning margin was 62% in 2009 which was substantially reduced to a mere 5.8% in the 2019 elections.

There was only one constituency where BJD saw an increase in its winning margin in all three elections. It was the Sukinda constituency where the winning margin in 2009 was 2.0%, in 2014 it was 3.2% and 10.5% in 2019.
