In the 2017 assembly elections, there were in total of 57 constituencies where the BJP had a low winning/losing margin. And the margin in both losing and winning remained below 5%. It managed to win 25 seats out of these whereas it went on to lose the other 32 seats. It was defeated by INC in 30 seats and lost 2 seats to IND.
BJP managed to retain power in the state in 2017, but it knows as well how close INC came to dethroning it in the state. It will be focusing on these close losses to further consolidate its number of seats in the upcoming elections and to maintain its dominance in the state.
