During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 54,905 and the turnout stood at 59.17%, in real numbers- 32,486 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout increase; out of the 50,424 electors, 64.59% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers, though it was a reasonable jump-32,569 voters.

2017’s assembly election winner, BJP’s Suresh Bhardwaj gained a vote share of 43.02% and defeated independent candidate Harish Janartha whose vote share stood at 37.18%. The other prominent candidates in the fray were CPI(M)’s Sanjay Chauhan with 9.36% and INC’s Harbhajan Sing Bhajji with 8.23% vote share.

In 2012, BJP won the constituency and earned 11,563 votes and 14,012 votes in 2017. On the other hand, INC garnered 10,935 votes in 2012 and 2,680 votes in 2017. CPI(M) received 8,025 votes in 2012 and 3,047 votes in 2017. INC dominated the district of Shimla in 2017 by winning 4 seats.  BJP managed victory in 3 seats whereas 1 seat went to CPI(M).
