Voter Turnout
During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 270144 and the turnout stood at 71.21%, in real numbers- 192373 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout decrease; out of the 359736 electors, 68.14% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers though it was a reasonable jump-245116 voters.
Representation and Results
2017’s assembly election winner, BJP’s Patel Mukeshbhai Zinabhai gained a vote share of 60.31% and defeated INC’s Bakrola Yogendrasinh Chandrasinh whose vote share stood at 35.19%. The remaining candidate in the fray was BSP’s Pathan Sirajkhan Hosiyarkhan with 0.59% vote share. 1.59% of votes were under NOTA.
Voting History -2012 & 2017
In 2012, BJP won the constituency and earned 106805 votes that increased to 147828 votes in 2017. On the other hand, INC garnered 69747 votes in 2012 and 86250 votes in 2017. BSP got 1454 votes in 2017 elections. BJP marked its dominance in the district of Surat by winning 15 seats and the remaining 1 seat went to INC.
