Voter Turnout
During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 72,676 and the turnout stood at 70.03%, in real numbers- 50,898 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout increase; out of the 80,793 electors, 73.52% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers, though it was a reasonable jump-59,401 voters.
Representation and Results
2017’s assembly election winner, INC’s Sujan Singh Pathania gained a vote share of 31.92% and defeated BJP’s Kirpal Singh Parmar whose vote share stood at 29.76%. The other prominent candidates in the fray were two independent candidates Baldev Thakur with 22.04% and Dr. Rajan Sushant with 10.45% vote share.

In 2012, INC won the constituency and earned 18,662 votes and 18,962 votes in 2017. On the other hand, BJP garnered 11,445 votes in 2012 and 17,678 votes in 2017. BJP dominated the district of Kangra in 2017 by winning 11 seats. 3 seats are won by INC and 1 went to an independent candidate.
