Voter Turnout

During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 64,598 and the turnout stood at 73.65%, in real numbers- 47,579 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout increase; out of the 74,863 electors, 77.11% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers, though it was a reasonable jump-57,725 voters.
Representation and Results

2017’s assembly election winner, BJP’s Kishan Kapoor gained a vote share of 45.13% and defeated INC’s Sudhir Sharma whose vote share stood at 39.94%. The other prominent candidates in the fray were two independent candidates Ravinder Rana with 3.68% and Pankaj Kumar with 2.99% vote share.

In 2012, INC won the constituency and earned 21,241 votes and 23,053 votes in 2017. On the other hand, BJP garnered 16,241 votes in 2012 and 26,050 votes in 2017. BJP dominated the district of Kangra in 2017 by winning 11 seats. INC managed to secure 3 seats whereas 1 seat went to an independent candidate.
