Voter Turnout

During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 63,710 and the turnout stood at 75.65%, in real numbers- 48,199 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout decrease; out of the 71,374 electors, 73.39% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers, though it was a reasonable jump-52,383 voters.
Representation and Results

2017’s assembly election winner, BJP’s Jia Lal gained a vote share of 49.15% and defeated INC’s Bharmour Singh Thakur whose vote share stood at 35.12%. The other prominent candidates in the fray were independent candidates Lalit Thakur and Janam Singh with 11.94% and 1.47% of vote share respectively.

In 2012, INC won the constituency and earned 24,751 votes and 18,395 votes in 2017. On the other hand, BJP garnered 21,284 votes in 2012 and 25,744 votes in 2017. BJP dominated the district of Chamba in 2017 by winning 4 seats. 1 seat went to INC.
