In the 2012 assembly elections, SAD contested 94 seats. It managed to win 56 seats and came 1st runner-up in the remaining 38 seats. The 2017 elections saw a significant decline in SAD’s performance wherein it won only 15 seats and came 1st runner-up in 44 seats whereas in 35 seats it was placed 3rd. In 2022, SAD contested 97 seats and managed to win only 3 seats and was further pushed down from 2nd and 3rd positioning in some constituencies. It was positioned 4th in 14 seats and came 5th in 3 seats.

The grand old party of Punjab, SAD, will need to come up with a well-rounded strategy and make well-coordinated efforts in the next elections to have any chance at regaining its prominence in state politics.
