Voter Turnout

During the 2012 elections, the total number of electors was 202882 and the turnout stood at 76.68%, in real numbers- 155568 voters. 2017 witnessed a turnout increase; out of the 214634 electors, 77.22% of voters exercised their constitutional rights. In real numbers it translates to 165744 voters.
Representation and Results

2017’s assembly election winner, BJP’s Dhodiya Mohanbhai Dhanjibhai gained a vote share of 49.84% and defeated INC’s Chaudhari Dr. Tusharbhai Amarsinhbhai whose vote share stood at 45.96%. The remaining candidate in the fray was JD(U)’s Gamit Manharbhai Lakhabhai with 0.98% vote share. 1.90% of votes were under NOTA.

In 2012, BJP won the constituency and earned 74161 votes that increased to 82607 votes in 2017. On the other hand, INC garnered 62474 votes in 2012 and 76174 votes in 2017. JD(U) got 1622 votes in 2017. BJP dominated the district of Surat in 2017 by winning 15 seats. The remaining 1 seat was won by INC.
